About The Position
The Greenhouse Purchaser is responsible for sourcing and ordering greenhouse supplies, plant material, and related materials to support daily operations. This position works closely with greenhouse management and vendors to ensure products are available, cost-effective, and delivered on schedule.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Proficient in basic computer systems, email, and spreadsheets
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout greenhouse facilities regularly
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally
- Ability to work in varying temperatures and greenhouse conditions
Nice To Haves
- Previous purchasing, inventory, greenhouse, agricultural, or retail experience preferred
- Basic knowledge of plants, greenhouse products, or horticulture is preferred
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to multitask and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- QuickBooks knowledge preferred
Responsibilities
- Purchase plants, seeds, soil, fertilizers, containers, and greenhouse supplies
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels and monitor product usage
- Communicate with vendors regarding pricing, availability, and delivery schedules and payments
- Compare pricing and negotiate favorable terms when appropriate
- Track purchase orders, invoices, and receiving documentation
- Coordinate deliveries and verify the accuracy of shipments
- Work with greenhouse management to anticipate seasonal product needs
- Monitor product quality and address vendor issues as needed
- Maintain organized purchasing and inventory records
- Assist with budgeting and cost control efforts
