About The Position

CHSofNJ is a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving children’s lives and building healthy families. With a legacy of more than a century, we provide compassionate, culturally relevant services across maternal-child health, early childhood education, behavioral health, and social services. Our WIC program is one of the largest in the state and plays a critical role in fighting food insecurity and improving the health of vulnerable families. Grants & Advancement Associate assists the Vice President of Philanthropic Partnerships & Strategic Giving in advancing CHSofNJ’s philanthropic, institutional giving, and donor engagement objectives. The role centers on grant writing and foundation relations, with additional duties in donor stewardship, prospect research, philanthropic communications, and project coordination. The Associate will help secure and manage philanthropic investments by supporting proposal development, managing foundation and corporate relationships, preparing donor engagement materials, coordinating stewardship activities, conducting prospect research, and maintaining fundraising systems. This position is well suited for a strong writer and highly organized professional interested in institutional fundraising and relationship-based philanthropy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong writing, editing, and research skills.
  • Experience in grant writing, fundraising, communications, nonprofit development, or a related field.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CRM/database systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to meeting deadlines.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Research, identify, and track foundation, corporate, and government funding opportunities aligned with CHSofNJ priorities.
  • Draft letters of inquiry, grant proposals, reports, concept papers, and stewardship communications.
  • Collaborate with program, finance, and leadership staff to gather information, budgets, outcomes, and supporting documentation.
  • With grants team, maintain grants calendars and ensure timely submission of proposals, reports, and renewals.
  • Support grant compliance, reporting, and funder stewardship activities.
  • Monitor philanthropic and funding trends relevant to CHSofNJ.
  • Support cultivation and stewardship activities for foundation, corporate, and individual donors.
  • Coordinate donor visits, site tours, meetings, and engagement opportunities.
  • Assist in developing stewardship plans and meaningful donor touchpoints throughout the year.
  • Draft donor correspondence, acknowledgments, impact updates, annual reports, and other stewardship materials.
  • Support planning and execution of donor briefings, cultivation events, and recognition activities.
  • Conduct research on prospective foundations, corporations, and major donor prospects.
  • Develop donor and funder profiles, briefing documents, and meeting preparation materials for the VP, , CAO, CEO, and other organizational leaders.
  • Assist in maintaining prospect pipelines and tracking relationship-building activities.
  • Monitor donor engagement opportunities and recommend next steps for cultivation and stewardship.
  • Support portfolio management efforts through data tracking, meeting summaries, and follow-up coordination.
  • Assist in developing cases for support, impact narratives, presentations, and funding materials.
  • Support maternal health, community doula, endowment, and other strategic fundraising initiatives.
  • Help gather and translate program outcomes into compelling donor-facing materials.
  • Coordinate cross-departmental information gathering for fundraising and partnership efforts.
  • Provide administrative and project management support for key advancement initiatives led by the VP.
  • Maintain accurate donor, prospect, and funder records in CRM and fundraising systems.
  • Track donor interactions, proposals, reports, and stewardship activities.
  • Generate reports and dashboards to support fundraising planning and performance monitoring.
  • Ensure data integrity and consistency across fundraising and grants records.
