About The Position

The Geneva School, established in 1993, is a mission-driven institution dedicated to providing students in grades K4-12 with an extraordinary education. This education is rooted in an integrated curriculum, pedagogy, and culture that is both classical and Christian, aiming to foster goodness, truth, and beauty. The school seeks to instill in students an appreciation for beauty, critical thinking skills, and a desire to pursue Christ's calling. Faculty members are central to fulfilling this mission. The Grammar School Teacher is an exempt position, supervised by the Director of the Grammar School. In a formative and relational capacity, the teacher models Christ-like behavior within the school community, engaging with the Christian, liberal arts tradition through study, reimagining, and teaching.

Requirements

  • Hold at least a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.
  • Have experience teaching courses in an elementary classroom setting.
  • Understand fundamentally and support the Christian and classical approach to education practiced at The Geneva School.
  • Ascribe to and agree to live in accordance with The Geneva School’s statement of faith.
  • Hold oneself to a high standard of honesty and integrity.
  • Able to work effectively both in collaboration with other professionals and on own initiative.
  • Professional and approachable in appearance and attitude.
  • Willingness to learn new skills.

  • Enjoys working around children and is able to form and monitor appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people.
  • Lift 20 lbs. occasionally and 10 lbs. frequently.
  • Sit frequently and stand and walk on varied surfaces.
  • Bend, stoop, crouch, push, pull, climb, balance, kneel, crawl.
  • Use hands/arms to reach in any direction and seize, grasp, hold, and turn objects using hand(s).
  • Use fingers, versus the whole hand, to pick, pinch, and feel objects.
  • See, talk, and hear to communicate with others in person, electronically, by phone, or by radio.
  • Visual functions include the ability to identify and distinguish colors and bring an object into sharp focus.
  • Background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.

Responsibilities

  • Develop lesson plans from The Geneva School curriculum.
  • Enthusiastically and competently implement Geneva’s curriculum under the guidance of the Director of the Lower Grammar School, while bringing his or her intelligence, energy, and creativity to bear on the craft of teaching.
  • Evaluate student achievement appropriately.
  • Collaborate with fellow teachers and administration to further develop best practices as an educator in an independent school with a team mindset.
  • Skillfully manage a classroom of young people with varying academic skills and learning styles.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
  • Be committed to being a life-long learner as well as committed to growing professionally as an educator through Geneva’s policies and procedures.
  • Assist with extra-curricular responsibilities.
  • Serve as a role model within our communities for Christian Classical Education.
  • Work effectively with the aide/aides within the grade level.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all information with all of our parents, faculty, and staff.
