About The Position

The TAMIU Department of Biology & Chemistry is seeking a highly motivated research-oriented individual for an NSF grant-funded Graduate Research Assistant (part-time) position. This role is ideal for a skillful and passionate MS graduate in Biology who is looking to gain hands-on research experience in biomedical research. The research involves using basic and advanced microbiological and molecular biology tools to study morphological and physiological adaptations in the pathogenic yeast, Candida albicans, and other yeast model organisms.

Requirements

  • Enrolled at least half-time, 3 credit hours per semester in TAMIU's MS program.
  • Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 3.0.
  • Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU’s Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).
  • Proficiency in use of personal computer workstation with common software applications.
  • Ability to organize and multitask functions to ensure compliance with deadlines.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal relationship and communication skills.
  • Problem analysis and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to learn and use multiple software programs.
  • Position requires on campus, face-to-face interactions.
  • Position requires maintaining a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.
  • Work schedules are created by the department based on departmental needs but ensure it does not conflict with class schedule.
  • Promptly complete all required training.
  • Submit time sheet biweekly.
  • Graduate students must be enrolled in at least 3 credit hours per semester.
  • International graduate students must enroll in 9 semester credit hours in order to meet the federal immigration guidelines.
  • Must maintain a 3.0 TAMIU overall GPA.

Responsibilities

  • Research and collect data through complex techniques and procedures.
  • Assist with data management and perform basic statistical analyses.
  • Develop assessment and evaluation tools.
  • Perform experiments and data analysis.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Participation in regional-level scientific conferences and publication/s in peer-review journals upon successful completion of assigned project/s.
