About The Position

This is a Graduate Research Assistant position at the Shidler College of Business / School of Travel Industry Management at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. The position is funded by federal sources and is a temporary, 11-month role. Renewal is dependent on performance, departmental needs, and/or funding availability. The annual salary is $31,524 (Step 17). This is a part-time position with a Full-Time Equivalency of 50%.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled (or admitted) as a graduate student at the University of Hawaiʻi at Manoa.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Geography, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with big data analytics, databases, and computer programming (such as Python, R, SQL, ArcGIS/QGIS).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare technical reports and research manuscripts.
  • Ability to organize tasks and work independently as well as collaboratively.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data collection and sensors.
  • Experience with trail management.
  • Experience with scientific writing and conference or journal publications.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Master's degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct literature reviews relevant to the research projects.
  • Collect, process, integrate, and analyze big data.
  • Set up and operate data collection sensors.
  • Assist in developing databases, data processing pipelines, and online visualization tools.
  • Assist in preparing technical reports, journal manuscripts, conference papers, and research presentations.
  • Participate in project meetings.
  • Communicate and coordinate with project partners and stakeholders.
  • Perform other research-related duties as assigned.
