About The Position

The Graduate Assistant (GA) for Student Wellness Education supports the Office of Student Wellness Education (SWELL) through health education programming, student outreach, and wellness promotion efforts. This role is ideal for graduate students interested in public health, higher education, student affairs, social work, counseling, or related fields. Living on-campus is required.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a graduate program in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Public Health, Counseling, Social Work, Health Communication, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong interest in student health, wellness, belonging, and inclusion.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; public speaking or facilitation experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a campus setting.
  • Experience with event planning, marketing, or peer education is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Canva, and social media platforms preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, implementing, and evaluating wellness programs on topics including alcohol and other drugs, mental well-being, sexual health, nutrition, and sleep.
  • Help facilitate workshops, presentations, and outreach events.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to support student wellness initiatives.
  • Support the training and mentoring of peer educators or student volunteers.
  • Assist with peer education events, scheduling, logistics, and promotion.
  • Encourage student leadership in wellness and health advocacy.
  • Create educational materials, social media content, and promotional campaigns.
  • Help maintain the office’s digital presence and student-facing wellness resources.
  • Represent SWELL at campus events, orientation, and resource fairs.
  • Assist with program evaluation, data collection, and identifying best practices.
  • Support office operations, student communication, and program logistics.
  • Apply public health principles and health behavior theory to campus wellness initiatives.
  • Support prevention-focused strategies that address student health needs and promote well-being.
  • Gain experience in community health education, health communication, and population-level programming within a college setting.
  • Contribute to data-informed program planning and continuous improvement efforts.
  • This position provides practical experience in health promotion, student engagement, program development, assessment, and higher education administration.
  • The GA will receive mentorship from professional staff and gain transferable skills in facilitation, marketing, advising, event planning, and public health practice.
