2026-27 Graduate Assistant 12 month - Geography, Geology and Environment
About The Position
The Department of Geography, Geology, and Environment seeks graduate students for a Graduate Assistant position to assist faculty in the instruction of geography or geology classes. This is a 12-month appointment with anticipated dates from August 21, 2026, to December 23, 2026, and January 21, 2027, to May 29, 2027. Students can work up to 20 hours per week during the semester. The specific duties will depend on the assignment and faculty supervisor, but may include providing non-teaching assistance, research assistance, training others on equipment use, preparing course materials, evaluating student work, tutoring, and other assigned duties.
Requirements
- Degree-seeking graduate student in the Department of Geography, Geology, and Environment
- Currently enrolled in or admitted to a Cal State LA graduate degree program
- Admissions to the Master Program in the Department of Geography, Geology, and Environment, in good academic standing
- Enrollment in course(s) for the semester towards the degree
- Ability to relate well with others within the academic environment and have the ability or potential to learn how to instruct and evaluate students
- Demonstrate commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
- Background check must be satisfactorily completed
- Applicants will be required to disclose whether they have received a final administrative decision or final judicial decision determining that they have committed sexual harassment within the last seven years
Responsibilities
- Provide professional non-teaching assistance to faculty member
- Provide research assistance and practical experience in fields related to their advanced study
- Assisting with handling/or training other student in the use of equipment or other resources
- Assisting faculty with research and preparation of course materials
- Participate in evaluation of students work
- Tutoring students
- Read and evaluate student work
- Perform other duties as assigned
