About The Position

The Department of Educational Leadership seeks students as Graduate Assistants for the EdD program within the Kremen School of Education and Human Development. Appointments are contingent upon adequate funding, and the department reserves the right to assign Graduate Assistants to appropriate courses or duties. Appointments may vary due to staff and curriculum changes, with no guarantee of employment from semester to semester. This position is opened until filled. If you have applied and no other positions are available, you will be notified. Students can work up to 20 hours per week, with 1 unit equivalent to 2.66 hours per week, not to exceed 6 units or 7.50 total WTU's in one semester. Job duties are dependent on the specific assignment and faculty supervisor, and may include providing non-teaching assistance to faculty, research assistance, supervising students, training students in equipment use, assisting with research and course materials, participating in student evaluations, tutoring, and developing processes to foster engagement with the Ed.D. Program community. This includes coordinating programs, identifying potential community partners, and determining program alumni needs.

Requirements

  • Minimum GPA 3.0
  • International students must have a TOEFL score of 600 or better
  • Must enroll in at least 6 units (three of which must be graduate units) for the semester or in two courses applicable to program of study
  • Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic background
  • Must have an earned Bachelor’s degree
  • Must be enrolled in the HEAL master’s program at Fresno State
  • Experience working in higher education and/or student affairs
  • Experience developing and delivering surveys using Google Forms and Qualtrics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with Google Suite and MS Office
  • Understanding of social justice and equity issues in higher education

Nice To Haves

  • Applicants with a 3.5 or higher GPA are preferred
  • For those who have previously held a TA position at Fresno State, peer and student evaluations will be reviewed and considered as part of the selection process.
  • Desire to develop student affairs professional competencies
  • Interest in supporting graduate student success
  • Experience in analyzing and delivering reports on data from surveys
  • Experience using Mailchimp and Canvas online software

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional non-teaching assistance to faculty members
  • Provide research assistance and practical experience in fields related to their advanced study
  • May involve supervising students in a classroom, workshop, or laboratory (final responsibility is vested in a member of the faculty)
  • Provide training students in the use of equipment or other resources
  • Assist faculty with research and preparation of course materials
  • Participate in evaluation of students' work
  • Tutoring students
  • Developing processes and strategies to foster engagement with the Ed.D. Program community, namely the program’s students, alumni, larger Fresno State community, and prospective students
  • Collaborating with the Program Advisor to create a system for tracking program alumni, updating their contact information, and identifying opportunities for alumni to connect with current students and community members
  • Coordinating programs such as alumni speaker webinars and socials
  • Identifying program alumni and collecting information from them to share on social media and the program website
  • Assist in identifying potential community partners
  • Determining needs of our program alumni and offering resources

  • The monthly salary is calculated based on the Weighted Teaching Units assigned.
