About The Position

Reporting to the Assistant Director of Graduate Affairs, the Graduate Affairs Advisor provides professional student services and administrative support for graduate education programs. The position supports the School's graduate education mission through program administration, student advising, and student services support. The incumbent regularly collaborates with faculty, Graduate Program Directors, and campus partners to assist with student and programmatic issues and support implementation of services, processes, and operational practices. The position assists with graduate student employment administration and UCPath and/or payroll processing and provides information regarding related policies, procedures, and requirements. The Graduate Studies & Support Office provides oversight, guidance, advisement, and administrative support for graduate education programs within the Charlie Dunlop School of Biological Sciences. The office serves more than 350 graduate students and 90 postdoctoral fellows and collaborates with faculty, department chairs, and campus partners to support recruitment, admissions, academic progress, student funding, employment administration, professional development, and student success.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of advising and counseling techniques applicable to graduate student populations.
  • Knowledge of graduate student funding models, fellowships, traineeships, and academic student employee appointments.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal and multicultural competencies.
  • Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems using established policies and procedures.
  • Skills in judgment, decision-making, and problem solving.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare reports supporting student services and program administration.
  • Ability to interpret and apply policies, regulations, and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Ability to provide information and support regarding policies, procedures, and administrative processes.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • 3-5 years progressively responsible experience in graduate affairs, student services academic administration or higher education administration.
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of University-specific computer application programs and databases; UCPath experience highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures related to graduate education, student services, graduate student employment, and student support programs.
  • 1-3 years UCPath and/or payroll experience.
