About The Position
This position is for a Kumu (teacher) at Hilo High School, responsible for teaching Hawaiian Immersion Mathematics courses including Algebra 1, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Statistics for grades 9-12. The Hawaii State Department of Education is committed to hiring highly qualified teachers. A Bachelor's Degree is the minimum qualification for this position, unless it's a designated Career and Technology Education (CTE) position. If hired without a completed Teacher's Education Program, teachers have a maximum of 3 years to obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license and must enroll in a program to continue employment. Active pursuit towards meeting Hawaii licensing requirements must be demonstrated annually. A valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit is required upon hire.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree (minimum qualification for teacher positions, excluding designated CTE positions).
- Valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit upon hire.
- Enrollment in a Teacher's Education Program if hired without a completed program (required to continue employment).
- Satisfactorily demonstrate active pursuit towards meeting Hawaii licensing requirements annually.
- Ensure the enrolled program is aligned with the teaching line hired in.
Nice To Haves
- Valid Hawaiian Immersion license from the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board.
- Fluent in the Hawaiian language.
