About The Position

This position performs duties under the limited supervision of the Accountant Supervisor in the Bureau of Comptroller, Division of Finance & Operations, Department of Education. Position is responsible for processing grant payments and assembling voucher schedules. The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) has an open position that is responsible for executing the following functions: Provide necessary assistance to the Auditor General and other State auditors in their review of Departmental accounting records. Interpret various financial reports, records and information systems to advise management, central staff and outside agencies as necessary. This involves analysis, projections, summaries and schedules developed from all available information sources. Communication with program supervisors and administrative staff to resolve problems and issues. Review projects, plans and awards from Local Educational Agencies, Community Colleges, Universities and prime sponsors for accuracy of fiscal information and compliance with State laws and regulations. Review grants expenditure reports submitted by agencies for accuracy and compliance with approved budget and reporting requirements. Process encumbrance and disbursement entries into FLAIR on a daily basis. Investigates, assesses, analyzes and makes recommendations to resolve problems and issues. Travel as often as necessary to monitor and provide technical assistance to various agencies participating in a variety of State and Federal programs. Provide training assistance to new employees and team members on auditing and processes. Assist with updating operation policies and procedures to streamline the grant payment process. Perform related work as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience working in Florida Accounting Information Resource System (FLAIR)
  • Experience with grant accounting
  • Experience using Excel
  • Knowledge of basic management principles and practices and methods of data collection and analysis.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations, solve problems, document work flow and other activities relating to the improvement of operational and management practices.
  • Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents and other written materials.
  • Ability to conduct fact-finding research and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to operational and management analysis activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to work independently.
