About The Position

The golf course laborer performs semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of Park District golf course grounds and facility. The employee is under the direct supervision of the maintenance supervisor or Superintendent of Golf.

Requirements

• Some knowledge of golf course grounds and facility practices.
• Some knowledge of pertinent safety precautions.
• Ability to operate light maintenance equipment.
• Ability to make simple adjustments and to perform simple maintenance on equipment, if required.
• Ability to follow written or oral instructions.
• Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees.
• Ability to perform required duties with initiative, good judgment, accuracy, persistence, integrity, dependability, tact and courtesy.
• Must be in good physical condition to perform duties as required and lift 50 lbs.
• Graduate of a standard high school course or equivalent.
• Must have ability to read, write, organize materials, good problem solving skills and communication skills.
• Must be able to have good safety awareness.

Nice To Haves

• General experience with lawn equipment, garden tools or machinery is beneficial.
• Additional certification, such as CPR and first aid may be required.

Responsibilities

• Operates and drives grass cutting mowers and tractors relate to the golf facility. Operates small power tools as required.
• Plants, cultivates, and prunes trees, shrubs and flowers.
• Sprays shrubs and other plants for insect and fungus control, (if qualified.)
• Performs rough carpentry, plumbing and other related tasks necessary for day to day operations of golf course.
• Performs custodial duties and general work around the shop.
• Paints golf course accessories, signs, equipment, and makes simple repairs to equipment and other golf related items as required.
• Obey and enforce the practical safety rules, regulation and procedures established by the safety program that is pertinent to the activities conducted by the department.
• Performs other related duties as required.
