About The Position

This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Sports & Fitness (N921) Branch; Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Recreational Fleet and Family Readiness Support Services (N94); Commander, Navy Region Hawaii, at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam (JBPHH), Honolulu, HI. The purpose of the position is to provide labor assistance to the Barber's Point Golf Course.

The laborer performs grounds and maintenance work, including operating and maintaining heavy power mowers, cutting trees, digging ditches and trenches, grading and sloping, and occasionally breaking pavement and working with concrete or asphalt. Other related duties may be assigned.

Work requires safe operation of heavy equipment and tools, attention to detail, and the ability to complete assignments after receiving initial instructions, generally without detailed directions or continual supervision. The work involves very heavy physical effort, including frequently lifting and moving objects weighing over 50 pounds. Indoor work may involve drafts, noise, dust, dirt, and prolonged standing on concrete floors; outdoor work takes place in all kinds of weather. Issued protective gear must be worn, and special care is required to avoid serious injuries.

Salary depends on experience and/or education. Selection may be contingent on satisfactory employment references and completion of applicable requirements, which may include proof of education, medical screening, or drug testing.

Requirements

• Ability to operate, control, and clean heavy power equipment and to work safely with heavy tools.
• Ability to provide continual care and attention to avoid accidents and complete work properly; prior job experience or on-the-job training is normally required to develop this ability.
• Ability to complete assignments involving several tasks or processes and remember directions and sequences.
• Ability to complete most assignments after initial oral or written instructions, without detailed instructions or continual supervision.
• Ability to exert very heavy physical effort, including frequently lifting and moving objects weighing over 50 pounds.
• Must pass all applicable records and background checks.
• Must successfully pass E-Verify employment verification; discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
• Must wear issued protective gear.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy power mowers; adjust blades and clean and oil mowers.
• Cut trees using an ax or chain saw.
• Dig ditches and trenches with a pick and shovel where the dirt is hard and compact.
• Perform grading and sloping.
• Occasionally break up pavement with a jackhammer, mix and pour concrete, asphalt, and hot mix, and fill and level holes in damaged roads.
• Perform other related duties as required.
