About The Position

This role is responsible for ensuring the quality of products on the packing line, adhering to customer specifications, and maintaining efficient operations. The inspector will observe the gluing and folding process, identify defects, and communicate issues to operators and supervisors. This position requires attention to detail, understanding of quality control procedures, and the ability to work effectively within a team. The role also involves inventory management, monitoring the performance of other workers, and ensuring all documentation and packing specifications are met for shipments.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret orders to specify how the customer wants the order done.
  • Observe feeding and folding of material and gluing edges and inform gluer operator of any issues.
  • Demonstrate and explain how to correctly enter and edit job order details into OMS.
  • Familiarize self with the items being packed.
  • Find defects in product.
  • Perform all quality control and scale operations.
  • During ‘Setup’ Operation: Give direction to Gluer Level I to de-stage last job and stage the next job.
  • During ‘Run’ Operation: Give direction to Gluer Level I to check for correct card, count, carton, side, direction, and quality.
  • Examine and inspect boxes and products to ensure that packing specifications are met.
  • Regulate the efficient order of jobs to be completed on a timely basis.
  • Monitor and review information to detect & assess problems.
  • Perform monthly inventory to count and align the amount of boxes used.
  • Monitor quality performance of other workers on the packing line.
  • Inspect cards for any errors, mistakes, or defects.
  • Address any detected problems with the Gluer Operator II/III, Finishing Lead, or coordinate with the Quality Control Department.
  • Inspect carton labels for proper count, shipping information, and sample cards.
  • Reassure that packers are placing the correct cards in the correct box, quantity/weight is accurate, boxes are on the right skid, and box is being shipped on a timely basis.
  • Select random samples for inspection.
  • Scan for obvious flaws such as streaks, mis-register, color variations, etc.
  • Notify supervisors or specified personnel of deviations from specifications, machine malfunctions, or need for machine maintenance.
  • Calculate the amount of waste (overs) and line clearance.
  • Reconcile final inspection documentation for shipments.
  • During any “down time” work with the Gluer Operator, Gluer I, and material handler to ensure product is moved and area is staged.
  • Assist with the routine maintenance tasks of cleaning the quality control station.
  • When needed, assist the duties of the packers on the line to ensure they are keeping up and paying close attention to the quality of the products.
  • Complete daily end of shift duties as assigned.
  • Use a power lift and the checklist.
  • Demonstrate teamwork and motivation on intensive and easier packing jobs.
  • Understand the line stop procedures.
  • Understand all folder/gluer line metrics and goals.
  • Demonstrate and explain KPI’s and safety metrics and can lead White Board Sessions.
  • Correctly use required safety PPE: steel toe shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
