About The Position

Join MetLife’s Global Technology team for a hands-on summer internship where you’ll work alongside experienced engineers, contribute to real projects, and develop skills that prepare you for a full-time Junior Software Engineer role. Our program is designed for students who are curious, adaptable, and eager to learn new technologies and processes in a collaborative, supportive environment. Applications for this role will close December 1, 2026. Qualified candidates will be invited to interview on a rolling basis – no interview activity will take place between December 21, 2026 through January 18, 2027. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and must not require MetLife sponsorship or support for a work permit or visa in any capacity now or in the future. Interns will start in person on June 1st, 2027 and will work approximately 40 hours /week over the course of ten weeks – candidates must be available for the entire duration of the program. The primary location will be in Cary, NC with a limited number of roles available in other offices listed in the job description. MetLife does not provide housing or a relocation/housing stipend or support for this role.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or post-secondary training in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
  • Must have an expected graduation date no later than June 2029.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Academic coursework or personal projects in programming, software development, or technology.
  • Familiarity with at least one programming language (e.g., Java, Python, C#, JavaScript, TypeScript, COBOL, PowerShell).
  • Working understanding of AI capabilities and the ability to use AI tools.
  • Desire to learn new technologies, tools, and processes.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Curiosity, adaptability, and a growth mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to cloud platforms, AI/ML, or DevOps concepts through coursework, personal exploration, open-source contributions, or volunteer projects.
  • Experience with collaborative tools (e.g. GitHub, Azure DevOps) or agile methodologies.
  • An expected graduation date between December 2027 – May 2028.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in onboarding, training, and mentorship sessions focused on engineering fundamentals, AI, and cloud technologies.
  • Deliver a full-stack software solution by designing, developing, and testing new features for enterprise applications.
  • Own Agile development tasks, including writing user stories, participating in sprints, conducting peer code reviews, and resolving production issues.
  • Create and implement UI/UX improvements for web platforms.
  • Support strategic or operational initiatives by analyzing project data, preparing documentation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Engineer infrastructure solutions through projects involving hosting, networking, virtualization, and troubleshooting performance issues in live environments.
  • Share project outcomes and learning experiences with peers and leaders at the end of the internship.
