This role plays a key part in enabling remote Technical Support Engineers to address customer needs across industry-leading networking technologies. The position offers exposure to optical transport, packet OTN, and Ethernet switching technologies while supporting critical lab operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • 0–2 years of experience in a related technical environment
  • 1+ years application of fiber optic transport and/or switching equipment operations
  • Background in technical support within the telecommunications equipment vendor industry
  • 1+ years application of troubleshooting techniques for OTN/SONET/SDH equipment, Carrier Ethernet equipment, or fiber optic facilities
  • Application of Layer 1, 2, and 3 networking protocols

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with lab operations, including setup and operation of computer and test equipment
  • Knowledge of optical transport technology and related test equipment
  • Application of debugging tools and lab-based research for technical problem resolution
  • Contribution to knowledgebase systems such as KCS
  • Application of scripting and automation tools including TCL, Expect, Python, Bash, Perl, and REST APIs
  • Experience configuring and operating test equipment such as Spirent, JDSU/Thunderbird/Viavi, Exfo, Ixia/Keysight, and WireShark
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time, resources, and priorities in a structured environment
  • Utilization of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and operating systems including Windows and Sun/Oracle Linux

Responsibilities

  • Deliver hands-on technical assistance to remote Technical Support Engineers supporting global customers
  • Maintain lab infrastructure, including system configuration, maintenance, and operational readiness
  • Execute inventory control and asset management across lab environments
  • Administer documentation systems and web-based tools using technologies such as Apache, SharePoint, and scripting languages
  • Configure and maintain virtual machines within a VMWare ESXi (Windows 10) environment
  • Perform system upgrades, software installations, and FMS patching, including optical fiber manipulation and cleaning
  • Configure and document lab test environments that replicate customer network conditions
