About The Position

Global Pharma Strategy (GPS) is the central engine for the Roche Pharma Division, operating at the intersection of R&D, Commercial, and Manufacturing. GPS stewards Pharma, Portfolio, and Product strategies, aiming to catalyze the Roche ecosystem through end-to-end lifecycle management, commercialization excellence, and competitive fitness. The unit is committed to delivering on Roche’s Pharma Ambition of launching 20 transformative medicines by 2030, leveraging technology, data insights, and a global market perspective to bring scientific discoveries to patients efficiently and sustainably. The newly created Business Process & Operations (BPO) Unit within GPS is designed to ensure a robust, compliant, and scalable internal operational backbone, driving consistency, transparency, and quality to translate strategic goals into measurable business impact. The Global Program Manager is a key leadership role within the BPO Unit, responsible for bringing structure to complexity, proactively removing roadblocks, and navigating ambiguity. This role will lead high-priority enterprise initiatives with a customer-centric approach, ensuring clarity for internal stakeholders and establishing frameworks for successful execution and operational excellence across GPS.

Requirements

  • 8–12 years of experience in program management, business architecture, or strategic operations, ideally within a global pharmaceutical or highly regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated success in leading large-scale, cross-functional initiatives from concept to sustainable implementation.
  • Expert-level knowledge of program management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall) with the ability to adapt them to a corporate strategy context.
  • Proven track record managing stakeholders, navigating complex matrix environments, and influencing senior leaders without direct authority.
  • Exceptional ability to synthesize vast amounts of information into simple, coherent frameworks and roadmaps.
  • Experience leading project teams and a passion for mentoring more junior colleagues (like the BPO Business Managers).
  • University degree in Business, Science, or Engineering.
  • PMP, Prince2, or equivalent certification is highly desirable.
  • MBA desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Architect pragmatic and user-focused solutions and lead the execution of complex, enterprise-wide programs across GPS and partner functions.
  • Establish clear milestones, governance structures, dependencies, and accountability frameworks, while maintaining consistent program management standards.
  • Oversee key GPS strategic processes to ensure successful delivery of strategic priorities and business objectives.
  • Partner with leaders, project teams, strategic process owners, and communications partners to translate strategic priorities into actionable roadmaps.
  • Embed maturing new capabilities and create a clear understanding of the "why" behind key initiatives.
  • Drive alignment across the GPS operating model, ensuring initiatives are connected, prioritized effectively, and contribute to broader Pharma and GPS strategic goals.
  • Drive operational excellence by embedding effective processes, governance models, systems, business analytics, and ways of working.
  • Enhance organizational performance, support the adoption of new capabilities, and continuously improve execution, decision-making, and business outcomes through lean and value stream management approaches.
  • Partner with the Business Enablement Team (BET), including Change Leaders and Communications stakeholders, to build engagement and support the successful adoption of strategic initiatives.
  • Represent the voice of internal stakeholders and customers to ensure solutions are practical, intuitive, and deliver meaningful business value.
  • Lead cross-functional teams and rotational or development opportunities, providing coaching, guidance, and support to enable collaboration, build capabilities, and ensure high-quality delivery of strategic initiatives.
  • Identify, establish, and monitor program interdependencies and manage trade-offs across them (including resources, timelines, deliverables, and sequencing).
  • Act as a steward of decisions and moderate cross-program stakeholder decision-making.
