This course explores global ecological politics and activism, emphasizing histories and ongoing dynamics of capitalism and colonialism in ecological destruction. It will examine the historical and current negotiations, policies, and social movements related to ecological matters, with an emphasis on climate change, at a transnational level. While this course unpacks the persistent tensions in global ecological politics, it also emphasizes social movements, protests, and approaches that critically challenge capitalism and colonialism in relation to ecological harm and the climate crisis, and which advocate for more egalitarian collective futures.
