At Bank of America, the Global Financial Crimes Investigator performs end-to-end investigations or investigative support functions related to external financial crimes across one or more lines of business. The role conducts routine to complex investigations involving activities such as fraud committed by external parties, money laundering, and terrorist financing, and may liaise with law enforcement as required. The Investigator completes investigations while meeting or exceeding closure and quality metrics, reports investigation findings to help identify operational or compliance risks, and prepares accurate Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) for timely submission to regulators and/or law enforcement. The position may sit within investigations teams serving consumer or client-managed lines of business or within specialized investigations, and may partner with GFC Risk Management, Front Line Units, and other stakeholders. The role requires working knowledge of the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), USA PATRIOT Act, anti-money laundering efforts, Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and industry best practices. Investigators manage a significant case inventory, prioritize cases based on risk or management direction, and adhere to department Service Level Agreements. They research and analyze transactions, customer data, public records, social media, and other external sources to assess whether activity appears normal for the client type. They communicate with internal stakeholders and law enforcement to obtain information and documentation, recommend follow-up or possible account closure when customers exceed the Bank’s risk tolerance, and escalate potential operational or compliance risks.
