About The Position

The GIS Analyst intern works with Ballotpedia’s Tech Team to research election boundary rules and format and process shapefiles for Ballotpedia’s sample ballot lookup app, which helps voters find upcoming elections for their address. Work includes researching legal requirements for voter eligibility in different election types; sourcing maps through online research, outreach to government offices, or georeferencing to create shapefiles; testing and formatting files to meet Ballotpedia’s database requirements; and adding boundaries to the database and testing them. Interns receive an onboarding experience similar to that of full-time Ballotpedia employees and meet weekly one-on-one with a team member to coordinate tasks. The Spring 2027 internship runs January 11 through May 7, 2027. It is a paid, part-time internship of approximately 10–20 hours per week, depending on availability. Compensation is $20 per hour, or the applicable local minimum wage if higher. The internship is remote. Interns need a well-functioning computer with internet access; familiarity with Google Applications is helpful. Ballotpedia can facilitate internship credit where available.
