About The Position

The Christmas Gifts of Hope Program Coordinator assists individuals and families who are seeking aid and assistance from, or have been referred to, The Salvation Army Gifts of Hope Program. The Salvation Army has served people in need in communities across Canada and Bermuda for over 130 years, helping over 2 million people annually with necessities like food, clothing, and shelter, and supporting those facing unemployment, addiction, and family challenges. As a faith- and values-based organization, The Salvation Army welcomes people of all backgrounds.

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of basic to intermediate computer operation including Microsoft 365 programs, data entry, internet browsers, and some file management.
  • Ability to create reports.
  • Completion of high school.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience in providing community services, documenting and maintaining case files, working in collaboration with other service providers, community outreach, and working with people of diverse backgrounds in a social services/mental health setting.
  • Knowledge of community-based resources.
  • Experience networking with government and social service agencies.
  • Experience with program facilitation, administrative duties, and program development.
  • Hold a valid BC Class “5” driver’s license, own vehicle and insurance, and provide a copy of a driver’s abstract.
  • Proficient computer skills in all aspects of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to enter data and perform statistical analysis efficiently and accurately.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public, government, business leaders, and professionals.
  • Ability to work in a compassionate, respectful, active, responsible, and non-judgmental manner and independently.
  • Keen sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening as required.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications related to position responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a two (2) year Community College Diploma in a human services field, i.e., Social Services Worker is an asset.
  • Experience with community development considered an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to provide First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certifications is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the registration days for the Gifts of Hope program in cooperation with the Casework Manager.
  • Assist in the initial intake assessments and registration of participants into the Gifts of Hope program.
  • Screen applicants and cross-check with other agencies to verify there is no duplication of service.
  • Record all essential information into the case management database Link2Feed.
  • Assist with referrals for additional support needs that arise during the registration process.
  • Reinforce the mission, vision, and values of The Salvation Army Okanagan Central Community Church and Ministries.
  • Pray with individuals as requested.
  • Liaise with The Salvation Army Okanagan Central Community Church and Ministries through the Casework Manager regarding additional program partnering opportunities.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining the registration process.
  • Collect, organize, and prepare statistical data and other program information through Link2Feed or Microsoft Excel.
  • Assist in creating information and training material for staff and volunteers involved in the Gifts of Hope Toy Program.
  • Train and lead volunteers working in the Gifts of Hope registration process.
  • Follow up on telephone and email inquiries.
  • Assist in the organization and setup of registration venues, including all IT needs.
  • Prepare briefing reports for the leadership team at The Salvation Army Okanagan Central Community Church.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of The Salvation Army in all aspects of the role.
  • Represent the organization in a professional manner and ensure the efficient and professional operation of the Gifts of Hope program.
  • May assist with events related to Christmas programming (e.g., toy drives and community events).
