About The Position

The Gift Shop Associate will support the Supervisor by ensuring daily operations of greeting all visitors, restocking inventory, assisting artists with staging, executing point of sales, engaging shoppers who visit the shop, and actively engage with visitors who inquire about the Alaska Native art, traditions, and languages.

Requirements

  • Familiarity with Alaska Native art and community.
  • Experience using and learning new technologies.
  • Positive working attitude and customer services skills.
  • Available to work variable hours and shifts as directed by leadership.
  • Ability to add, subtract, divide, multiply and perform other basic business math calculations accurately.
  • Familiar with and ability to apply standard ergonomic and safety best practices.
  • Ability to use check stand register, scales, scanners and debit/credit terminals.
  • Ability to use Universal Pricing Code (UPC) codes, store signage, and apply pertinent company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to read UPC codes, product labels, checks, shelf signage, register forms, and posted company policies/procedures.
  • Ability to memorize locations of products sold within the store.
  • Ability to openly and professionally communicate through body language, facial expressions and speech.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks and external influences.
  • Skills in Customer Service and driving sales.
  • Understanding of Alaska Native Art and Artists.
  • Strong understanding and sensitivity to American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) Tribal culture and lifestyle, working effectively with AI/AN populations.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with sensitivity to the lifestyles of targeted participants.
  • Skills in operating personal computers using a variety of computer software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with management, coworkers, and outside contacts.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all applicable federal and tribal privacy laws and KIC policy (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.).
  • Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 6+ months experience in market/retail sales position.
  • Experience in community organization preferred and a strong commitment to multi-disciplinary teamwork.
  • May be required to possess and maintain a valid driver's license or capable of obtaining one, as well as be insurable by KIC’s company insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a working knowledge of Southeast Alaska Native culture and art sold in shop.
  • Execute Point of Sale data functions at the register using a Square system that includes: entering SKU numbers, processing transactions, and handling and counting cash.
  • Execute clerical functions and paperwork in the shop, daily sales reports and balancing of the cash register daily.
  • Assist in handling inventory deliveries by counting inventory and organizing necessary storage.
  • Maintain, manage, and organize merchandise on the shelves and racks in the Shop.
  • Enter purchase orders and consignments into Square.
  • Assist the Supervisor in ensuring the smooth running of the store and providing support to all local artists with staging.
  • Ensure excellent retail experience for customers.
  • Maintain the store by cleaning, arranging, and restocking the shelves.
  • Package inventory for shipping as needed.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
