About The Position

Atrium Health is seeking experienced Advanced Practice Providers for their Division of Digestive Health & Surgery team in Charlotte, North Carolina. This is a full-time Surgery Care position focused on ambulatory specialty care with perioperative support, approximately 35 hours per week of direct patient care, with no routine or weekend calls. The role involves autonomous outpatient management for post-operative patients, surveillance populations, and complex wound/ostomy care. Responsibilities include performing histories, exams, ongoing assessments, implementing treatment plans, delivering patient education, and providing longitudinal support. The provider will collaborate with surgeons and interdisciplinary teams to optimize perioperative care, manage complex patients, coordinate transitions across care settings, and act as a patient advocate. Participation in quality improvement initiatives, workflow development, process improvement, and research is expected. The position requires meeting performance expectations of at least 35 weekly patient contact hours, maintaining compliance with documentation and productivity standards, and delivering efficient clinic throughput while managing complex patients. Core competencies include advanced clinical reasoning, strong communication skills, ability to independently manage patients, collaborative practice approach, and adaptability in complex care environments. Requirements

  • Must have or be eligible for a DEA license.
  • Approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state one works.
  • Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in NC required.
  • BLS for Healthcare Provider from AHA required with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice.
  • Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and make proactive decisions.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Master’s Degree or Doctorate of Nursing Practice required.
  • Nurse Practitioner: License to practice as a Registered Nurse required.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Certification in the area of practice from a nationally recognized certifying body required.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Acute Care board certification required based upon population and acuity served.
  • Nurse Practitioner: 1 Year experience ACNP or AGANP required.
  • Physician Assistant: Graduate from an accredited Physician Assistant program required, master’s degree preferred.
  • Physician Assistant: 1 Year experience required.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of experience preferred.
  • Surgical experience desired.
  • Current BCLS, ACLS, PALS, and ATLS preferred.
  • Critical care experience preferred.
  • Physician Assistant: Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants preferred.
