About The Position

The School of Nursing at the University of Kansas Medical Center is seeking applications for a full-time tenured or tenure track faculty position focused on gerontological nursing and aging science. We seek an established or emerging scientist-scholar with expertise in gerontological nursing, healthy aging, cognitive aging, dementia, brain health, caregiving, or related aging-focused research areas that align with strategic priorities of the School of Nursing and KUMC. The position is designed to strengthen and expand the School's leadership in aging science, geriatric nursing, and age-related health outcomes. Appointment, rank, and salary are commensurate with experience.

Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent research doctorate in nursing or related field.
  • Candidates who are nurses must hold or be eligible for RN Licensure in the State of Kansas

Nice To Haves

  • Established or emerging program of research focused on aging, older adults, dementia, brain health, caregiving, or related gerontological topics.
  • Completion of a post-doctoral research program.
  • Record of securing, or strong potential to secure, extramural research funding from federal, foundation, state, industry, or other competitive funding sources.
  • Experience leading or working on interdisciplinary research teams.
  • Experience leading or participating in community-partnered research involving older adults, caregivers, healthcare systems, or aging-service organizations.
  • Experience addressing health promotion, symptom management, quality of life, functional independence, care delivery, or other age-related health outcomes.
  • Record of scholarly dissemination through peer-reviewed publications, professional presentations, and other scholarly activities appropriate to career stage.
  • Experience teaching in an academic program.
  • Experience leading curriculum development/revisions or research efforts in an academic program.
  • Demonstrated record of, or strong potential for, professional service and leadership within academic institutions, healthcare organizations, professional societies, or community organizations.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Leadership skills.

Responsibilities

  • Engage in interdisciplinary collaborations that advance aging and health outcomes research.
  • Establish and maintain external funding in a defined area of research.
  • Disseminate scholarly work in professional publications and presentations at local, state, national, and international meetings, and through publications, town halls, and/or mass media to key stakeholders.
  • Teach in School of Nursing programs according to educational preparation and program need.
  • Participate in ongoing course and curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation activities.
  • Mentor students and contribute to faculty and program development activities.
  • Participate in service-related activities (serving on committees/task forces, student advising/mentoring, etc.) to support the mission of the school and university.
  • Other duties as assigned.
