Utah Valley University’s Psychology and Counseling Department seeks an Assistant Professor of Cognitive Psychology for a tenure-track position beginning in Fall 2027. UVU is a large regional public university serving more than 40,000 students. The department enrolls nearly 2,000 undergraduate psychology majors and prepares undergraduate and graduate students for careers and personal growth by connecting psychological and counseling knowledge with practical skills. Faculty work closely with students, many of whom are first-generation college students, and involve them in research and applied learning. The faculty workload is 80% teaching, 10% scholarship, and 10% service. The standard teaching load is 12 credits per semester, with optional summer teaching. Scholarship expectations reflect UVU’s teaching-focused mission and emphasize quality, mentorship, and professional standards rather than volume. The position includes teaching and grading courses, holding regular office hours, mentoring students, developing and revising curriculum and course materials, conducting and disseminating scholarship, and providing service to the department, college, and/or University. The successful candidate must hold a PhD in psychology or a related field from a reputable institution by the position start date, be able to teach cognitive psychology and other courses as departmental needs require, demonstrate scholarly potential, respect students and colleagues, and uphold ethical teaching standards. The successful candidate must relocate to Utah if hired.
