About The Position

The Geospatial Specialist 2 position with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs offers an exciting chance to support important training and mission planning. In this role, you help create maps and tools that guide military operations. Your work supports safe and successful training at Fort Indiantown Gap. This position supports training and operations by gathering and analyzing geospatial data and producing maps, databases, and visual tools.

Requirements

  • One year as a Geospatial Specialist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of technical experience utilizing geospatial programs to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, maintain, and present geospatial data; and an associate’s degree in geographic information systems, geography, geospatial technology, cartography, computer science, natural science, or related STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) field, including or supplemented by six (6) credits in geospatial coursework; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training, which includes or is supplemented by six (6) credits in geospatial coursework.
  • You must possess a valid federal or state-issued photo ID and pass a favorable NCIC screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.
  • You must pass a background check to obtain and maintain access to federal computer networks.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require submission of criminal history reports.

Responsibilities

  • Data Management: Collect and organize geospatial information from multiple sources
  • Mapping Production: Create maps and visual products that support planning and training
  • Standards Compliance: Ensure Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) data meet required federal and agency standards
  • Field Data Work: Gather Global Positioning Satellite System data in the field and process it for use in mapping systems
  • Technical Support: Provide guidance and training on GIS tools and applications
  • Spatial Analysis: Analyze geospatial data to identify useful patterns and support operations
