About The Position

The Geology Student Assistant will initially improve and reorganize the geology and environmental science display cases in Barstow Hall. The role also supports organization and inventory of departmental storerooms, teaching collections, supplies, equipment, specimens, and instructional materials. The assistant helps maintain clean and orderly laboratory, preparation, and storage areas and assists faculty with other geology and environmental science projects as needed.

Responsibilities

• Improve and reorganize the geology and environmental science display cases in Barstow Hall.
• Help select, arrange, label, and present rocks, minerals, fossils, maps, models, and other instructional materials for display.
• Develop clear and attractive labels or short descriptions for displayed materials.
• Organize geology and environmental science storerooms, cabinets, shelves, and teaching collections.
• Inventory laboratory and field supplies, equipment, specimens, and instructional materials.
• Create and update inventory lists and identify items that are low, missing, damaged, or no longer needed.
• Label shelves, cabinets, containers, specimens, and equipment so materials can be easily located.
• Help maintain clean and orderly laboratory, preparation, and storage areas.
• Assist faculty with other geology and environmental science projects as needed.
