About The Position

Coeur Alaska is seeking a motivated student for a summer internship with the Geology Department at the Kensington Mine in 2027, from May through August. The mine is an underground gold mine in the Berners Bay Mining District, approximately 45 miles north of Juneau, Alaska. The internship typically lasts about 12 weeks and provides mentored, on-the-job experience at an operating mine site, with responsibility for projects that have a tangible impact on the mine. Interns work individually and in teams, including creating a group presentation about a company improvement opportunity. The program concludes with an expenses-paid trip to the company’s Chicago office, where interns present their projects, meet company leaders, and network with early-career participants. Food and housing are provided at the remote mine-site camp; accommodations are dormitory style. Transportation between Juneau and the mine site is provided by bus and boat. The role involves geological and ore-control work in an underground mining environment. It requires working outdoors in varied and sometimes inclement weather, navigating uneven terrain, and following mine health and safety practices. The position pays $29.00 per hour.
