About The Position

The Geology Student Assistant will help improve and reorganize the geology and environmental science display cases in Barstow Hall. The role includes selecting, arranging, labeling, and presenting rocks, minerals, fossils, maps, models, and other instructional materials, as well as preparing clear and attractive labels or short descriptions.

The assistant will organize storerooms, cabinets, shelves, and teaching collections; inventory laboratory and field supplies, equipment, specimens, and instructional materials; maintain inventory lists; and identify items that are low, missing, damaged, or no longer needed. The assistant will also label storage and instructional materials, help keep laboratory, preparation, and storage areas clean and orderly, and assist faculty with other geology and environmental science projects as needed. Compensation is $12.00 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Inventory laboratory and field supplies, equipment, specimens, and instructional materials.
• Create and update inventory lists and identify items that are low, missing, damaged, or no longer needed.
• Label shelves, cabinets, containers, specimens, and equipment so materials can be easily located.
• Help maintain clean and orderly laboratory, preparation, and storage areas.
• Assist faculty with other geology and environmental science projects as needed.
