•$75,000 - $95,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Barr is seeking a mid-level geologist to join its Assessment and Remediation business unit in the Ann Arbor or Grand Rapids, Michigan, office. The position may use a hybrid arrangement, splitting work between a Barr office and a home office. The geologist will work independently and with project teams on environmental assessment, investigation, remediation, and site management activities. Periodic travel is required. The role includes supporting ASTM Phase I environmental site assessments for property transactions; designing, implementing, and coordinating Phase II investigations of contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and vapor intrusion; interpreting data and developing site conceptual models; and developing site management strategies and response action plans. Work may also include remediation technology evaluations and feasibility studies, cost estimates, contracting, technical reports, and responses to quotes and proposals. Additional assignments may involve field investigations, aquifer testing and analysis, and construction observation. Fieldwork may include observing drilling and monitoring well installation, classifying soil and bedrock samples, and collecting samples for field screening and laboratory analysis. The role involves working outdoors in variable conditions and in environments that may include rough construction-site terrain, industrial facilities, moving machinery, waste disposal sites, and hazardous-material cleanup sites. Up to 15% travel and up to 30% fieldwork are expected, with project needs varying seasonally and over time. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required, safety training will be provided, and some clients may request participation in drug screening. Candidates must be able to perform the job duties with or without reasonable accommodation. The successful candidate communicates clearly and confidently, works well both collaboratively and independently, and is adaptable, organized, proactive, analytical, detail-oriented, and accountable. Teamwork, quality, and integrity are important. For more experienced candidates, leadership, mentoring, and client relationship-building are also valued.
