About The Position

Barr is seeking a mid- or senior-level environmental engineer focused on remediation to join its Bismarck, North Dakota, team and support the Assessment and Remediation business unit. The position may use a hybrid arrangement, splitting work time between Barr’s office and a home office. The role includes investigating contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, and vapor intrusion; evaluating and implementing remediation strategies; and managing technical and project-delivery work. Responsibilities may also include business development and mentoring junior staff. The successful candidate is a clear communicator who works effectively both collaboratively and independently. They are adaptable, organized, analytical, detail-oriented, and solutions-focused, and use sound judgment to balance technical rigor with client and regulatory needs. Senior-level candidates are expected to mentor staff, lead multidisciplinary teams, and develop lasting client relationships. The position involves up to 10% travel and fieldwork, with travel needs varying seasonally and over time. Field assignments may take place on rough construction-site terrain, at industrial facilities with limited accessibility or moving machinery, and at waste disposal or hazardous-material cleanup sites. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required, safety training will be provided, and some clients may request participation in a drug-screening program. Candidates must be able to perform the job with or without reasonable accommodation. The anticipated annual compensation range is $80,000–$125,000, depending on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. The position is exempt and salaried under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
