About The Position

The Genomics Facility provides access to advanced genomics technologies to University of Chicago researchers. These technologies include Single-Cell Genomics, Next-Generation Sequencing, Micro-arrays, Sanger Sequencing as well as general nucleic acid sample QC and processing. The facility is part of the Office of Shared Research Facilities.

Requirements

  • College or university degree in related field.
  • Knowledge and skills developed through <2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required to communicate internally with co-workers and externally with Facility clients.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage competing deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail oriented with strong sense of work ownership.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to perform lab-based tasks for an extended period of time.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 3-6 months prior experience in a genomics research lab setting.

Responsibilities

  • Operates the Facility’s sample QC equipment, which includes the fragment analyzer, the bio-analyzer, qubit and the qPCR instruments.
  • Operates the Facility’s sequencing equipment (Illumina NovaSEQ / Element AVITI).
  • Additional Core operated platforms, as guided by the Director.
  • Administrative processing of new work / projects and the associated client communication emails.
  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens.
  • Conducts literature reviews.
  • Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
