Turbine and Generator Services (TGS) works to optimize the reliability and cost of Regulated Renewable Energy’s centerline assets through data-driven technical solutions, collaboration, and oversight. The Generator Engineering team provides advanced engineering support for Duke Energy’s utility-scale generator fleet and associated electrical systems. Generator Engineers assess equipment condition, analyze operational and maintenance data, troubleshoot complex generator issues, lead root cause investigations, and develop recommendations to improve reliability and performance. They support major outages and generator repair projects through technical oversight, engineering evaluations, inspection planning, and repair scope development. The role applies fleet-wide lessons learned and industry best practices to solve technical problems, extend asset life, and support safe, reliable equipment operation. The role is available at Engineer II or Engineer III level. The description also characterizes the Lead Engineer level as a specialist and leader who solves complex problems, manages work, streamlines processes, and completes work with minimal supervision and increased latitude for unreviewed work. Lead engineers are expected to have fleet-level impact while being responsible for assets in the Carolinas region. This position can be located anywhere within Duke Energy’s Florida service territory. It is a highly mobile field role involving work at various facilities or field locations, with occasional onsite meetings after onboarding. Employees must live within a reasonable commute—no more than 50 miles one way—of the posted reporting location. Work takes place in power plants or offices, with 25–30% travel stated in the description; the separate travel requirements section lists 15–25%. Occasional overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required. The work may involve mechanical, electrical, noise, and other industrial hazards, requiring appropriate protective equipment. Generator Engineers provide frontline engineering support for generator centerline equipment and coordinate with plant operations, engineering, technical support functions, other internal organizations, original equipment manufacturers, vendors, shops, and other resources. They help ensure major generator maintenance is properly prioritized and scheduled, meets outage goals and applicable requirements, uses approved parts and repair or assembly techniques, follows required inspections and hold points, is completed in the correct task sequence, and is fully documented. They develop detailed outage work scopes and provide engineering and technical support for operations, maintenance, and reliability improvement. The position serves as the technical owner of generators, exciters, and generator auxiliary systems, with responsibility for their reliable performance. Engineers monitor equipment trends, evaluate Monitoring & Diagnostic Center notifications, conduct station walkdowns, support emergent station events, prepare procurement specifications and bid evaluations, oversee outage work and vendor-shop execution, and write technical papers supporting major work and budget needs. The role also requires sound engineering judgment, effective communication, collaboration, accurate records, and professional representation of the company.
