Generator Engineer (Senior) - Florida

Duke Energy Corporation•St. Petersburg, FL

About The Position

The Senior Engineer is an advanced-level engineering position providing technical ownership and frontline engineering support for generator, exciter, and generator auxiliary systems across utility-scale generating assets. The role involves working independently on complex problems, managing work, and developing ways to improve processes, with guidance for unusual or complex projects. The engineer supports assets in the Carolinas region and may be located anywhere within Duke Energy’s Florida service territory. The Generator Engineering team assesses equipment condition, analyzes operating and maintenance data, troubleshoots generator issues, leads root cause investigations, and develops recommendations to improve reliability and performance. Engineers support major outages and repair projects through technical oversight, engineering evaluations, inspection planning, and repair scope development. They coordinate with plant teams, internal technical organizations, original equipment manufacturers, vendors, and repair shops to ensure work is properly scoped, scheduled, performed, inspected, and documented. The role includes a significant onsite engineering presence during planned and emergent outages, as well as planning, research, reviews, root cause analysis, and documentation when not supporting onsite work. The position is field-mobile, working at various facilities or field locations, with occasional onsite meetings after onboarding. The employee must live within a reasonable commute—no more than 50 miles one way—from the posted reporting location. Work may take place in a power plant or office environment and includes 25–30% travel (the posting also lists travel requirements as 15–25%). Occasional overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays, may be required. The role may involve exposure to mechanical, electrical, noise, and other industrial hazards, with appropriate protective equipment used as needed.
