About The Position

The Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility (CCHCF) is seeking a General Surgeon to provide outpatient and inpatient surgery services. This role involves serving as a staff surgeon and surgical consultant, examining, diagnosing, and treating surgical diseases and injuries. The surgeon will perform major surgical operations, visit the surgery ward to ensure proper patient care, review clinical records, and refer patients to other facilities when necessary. The position requires staying informed about surgical advancements, communicating effectively with patients and families, adhering to ethical standards, and understanding the cultural, social, and demographic characteristics of the patient community, which is predominantly Navajo. The CCHCF serves approximately 35,000 Navajo citizens in a rural area, with many patients traveling long distances and facing challenges such as lack of electricity or running water. The facility is a 60-bed inpatient hospital and outpatient facility located in Chinle, Arizona, near Canyon de Chelly National Monument.

Requirements

  • Completed five years of General Surgery Residency Training with at least six months in the required specialty.
  • Board certified or board eligible with the American Board of General Surgery.
  • Possess a current, valid, unrestricted license in any state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.
  • Hold a valid unrestricted DEA with schedule II – V.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outpatient and inpatient surgery services to Client patients.
  • Serve as a staff surgeon and surgical consultant.
  • Examine, diagnose, and treat surgical diseases and injuries.
  • Perform major surgical operations, such as gastrocolostomy, as needed.
  • Visit the surgery ward to ensure patients receive proper medical care.
  • Review clinical records for effectiveness and accuracy.
  • Refer patients to appropriate medical facilities when necessary, providing comprehensive clinical information.
  • Stay informed about advancements in surgical techniques and technologies.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families about treatment plans and outcomes.
  • Adhere to ethical and professional standards in medical practice.
  • Understand the cultural, social, and demographic characteristics of the patient community served.
