About The Position

The VA Northern Indiana Health Care System (VANIHCS) Fort Wayne Campus is seeking a General Surgeon to provide comprehensive general surgery care. This role involves pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care for patients. The surgeon will be responsible for assessments, diagnoses, developing treatment plans, performing surgeries, and providing follow-up care, including managing complications. Additionally, the General Surgeon will offer expert surgical consultations to referring physicians, ensuring clear communication and collaboration for optimal patient care. The Fort Wayne campus is a 26-bed medical center providing acute medical and surgical services, primary care, medical and surgical specialty care, and mental health clinics.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited medical school and completion of an accredited residency program in general surgery.
  • Board certified by the American Board of Surgery (ABS).
  • Current DEA Certification is required.
  • Must have a Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications are required.
  • Must hold a permanent, full, and unrestricted medical license to practice in any U.S. state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.

Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive general surgery care, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative care.
  • Be present on time for scheduled clinic and surgical sessions.
  • Performs assessments, diagnose conditions, develop treatment plans, and perform surgeries as needed.
  • Provide follow-up care to ensure the proper recovery of patients, including managing complications or side effects post-surgery.
  • Provides expert surgical consultations to referring physicians, ensuring clear communication and collaboration for optimal patient care.
