About The Position

The Chinle Comprehensive Health Care Facility (CCHCF) is seeking a General Surgeon to provide both inpatient and outpatient surgical physician services. The CCHCF serves approximately 35,000 Navajo citizens in a rural area of Northeast Arizona. Many patients travel long distances for care and may have limited access to utilities. The facility is a 60-bed inpatient hospital and outpatient facility offering a wide range of services. The role offers an opportunity to engage with strong Navajo cultural traditions and enjoy the natural beauty of the Colorado Plateau, with proximity to Canyon de Chelly National Monument. The nearest international airport is in Albuquerque, NM, approximately a three-hour drive away.

Requirements

• Completion of five years of general surgery residency training.
• Minimum of 6 months' experience in the specialty required.
• Board certified or board eligible with the American Board of General Surgery.
• Possess a current, valid, unrestricted appropriate license in any state, with the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient and outpatient surgery physician services.
• Serve as a staff surgeon and surgical consultant.
• Examine, diagnose, and treat surgical diseases and injuries.
• Perform major surgical operations, including procedures such as gastrocolostomy.
• Visit the surgery ward to ensure patients receive appropriate medical care.
• Review clinical records to assess the effectiveness of the attending medical officer and ensure proper record maintenance.
• Refer patients to appropriate contracted medical or other government facilities when local capabilities are insufficient, providing full clinical information.
• Be familiar with the cultural, social, political, geographic, demographic, economic, and epidemiological characteristics of the patient population.
