About The Position

The Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV, is seeking a General Surgeon to provide comprehensive, high-quality healthcare to veterans. This role involves direct patient care, performing surgeries, and participating in morbidity and mortality conferences. The surgeon will provide consultative services at the patient's bedside or in the outpatient clinic, with procedures scheduled within 30 days of consultation. Documentation requirements include pre-operative notes and immediate post-operative operative reports detailing findings and patient condition. Surgical services encompass pre-operative and post-operative evaluation and follow-up.

Requirements

  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia.
  • Board certified by the American Board of General Surgery.
  • Currently certified in BLS (Basic Life Support).
  • Currently certified in ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support).

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care (estimated 95% of time).
  • Be present in the operating suite for all General Surgery procedures.
  • Discuss all cases in morbidity and mortality conferences and provide information for departmental reports.
  • Provide consultative services at the patient’s bedside if the patient is not ambulatory.
  • Provide consultative services in the clinic setting if the patient is able to report to the outpatient clinic.
  • Schedule procedures for completion within 30 days of the date of consultation.
  • Enter a pre-operative progress note documenting findings, diagnosis, plan of treatment, discussion of surgery with the patient, and choice of procedure before it is performed.
  • Document an operative report immediately after the operation or procedure, describing the procedure, operative findings, and condition of the patient.
  • Provide all General Surgical Services, including pre-operative and post-operative evaluation and follow-up.
  • Follow all timeliness requirements for documentation, including operative notes, operative reports, and admission/pre-procedure notes.
