About The Position

The Phoenix Indian Medical Center (PIMC) provides direct health care services to 156,815 patients from various tribes. PIMC offers specialty care to rural and remote reservation health care facilities in Arizona, Nevada, and Utah. This role involves diagnosing and treating medical and surgical disorders, performing a wide variety of general surgical procedures, and supervising residents.

Requirements

  • Degree of MD/Do or equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Must be board certified or board eligible for General Surgery.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and treat medical and surgical disorders using the most appropriate techniques in providing quality care.
  • Responsible for initial evaluation and overall workups, history & physicals, and admission of general surgery patients as needed.
  • Clinical duties include Operating Room (experience in wide varied of standard general surgical procedures and operations), inpatient rounds, and emergency room.
  • Perform a wide variety of general surgical procedures.
  • Supervise residents that come in and require oversight.
  • Participate in all surgical quality/performance improvement initiatives as appropriate.
  • Participate in General Surgery night call and perform emergency general surgical procedures.
  • Provide patients with education concerning their disease state and treatment regimen.
  • Assess patient's risk and benefits associated with surgical procedures and will provide appropriate informed consent, so patients fully understand the important risks and benefits of surgical intervention.
  • Complete all electronic, clinical, daily charting and documentation required by the Medical Center in a timely manner as appropriate, including outcomes reporting as appropriate.
  • Consult with Medical Center Staff on many patient care issues.
