General Services Facilities Worker (Grade 13)
About The Position
The City of Huntsville’s General Services Department is seeking applicants for an entry-level facilities maintenance role. The department includes Facilities Projects, which manages new construction, additions, and alterations to City-owned buildings and parks, and Maintenance, which oversees maintenance and janitorial services for City-owned structures and properties. The General Services Facilities Worker performs installation, maintenance, and repair work. The role includes assembling, installing, and repairing shuttle bus stop houses; working on fencing, gates, playground equipment, sports goals, and bleachers; and assisting other trades, a General Services Facilities Supervisor, or contractors with work assignments.
Requirements
- High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, a GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency, or graduation from an accredited technical college, together with some experience and proficiency in a technical-related field such as welding, masonry, or general construction and facilities maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Pass the written portion of the CDL Class B Endorsement test within six months of hire or promotion.
- Pass the driving test and obtain a valid CDL Class B Endorsement within eleven months of hire or promotion.
Responsibilities
- Assemble, install, and repair shuttle bus stop houses.
- Assemble, install, or repair fencing, gates, and playground equipment.
- Install or remove soccer and basketball goals.
- Install, repair, and inspect playground equipment.
- Install and repair bleachers.
- Assist other trades in performing their work.
- Assist a General Services Facilities Supervisor or contractors with more advanced work assignments.
