Auto General Service Technician
About The Position
The General Service Technician performs basic automotive services, including mounting and balancing tires, tire repairs, oil changes, and vehicle inspections, while delivering an excellent customer experience. The role requires mechanical aptitude and responsibility for maintaining clean and safe work areas in the tire and service department. The technician may also advise customers and sell recommended or required automotive services and repairs. The technician learns to diagnose and repair basic automotive systems and keeps current with changing automotive technology through formal training. This role may involve working days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed, as well as working outdoors and encountering weather, chemicals, odors, dirt, dust, and moderate noise.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license.
- Passion for a career as a technician in the automotive industry.
- Eagerness to learn and a competitive drive to succeed.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Availability to work days, nights, holidays, and weekends as needed.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
Responsibilities
- Learn to diagnose and repair basic automotive issues, including brakes, alignments, suspensions, cooling systems, and electrical systems.
- Continuously learn new technical information and techniques through formal training sessions to keep up with changing automotive technology.
- Change engine oil and filters.
- Install tires and perform tire maintenance.
- Install batteries and check starting and charging systems.
- Install headlights and other small bulbs.
- Repair flat tires.
- Install wiper blades.
- Stock and unload tires.
- Assist fellow technicians and mechanics with technical activities.
- Keep store management informed of mechanical repair problems as they occur.
- Clean and maintain an organized, neat shop.
- Follow company policies, procedures, and safety and environmental rules.
- Advise customers about and sell recommended or required automotive services and repairs.
