Auto General Service Technician
About The Position
The General Service Technician performs basic automotive services, including mounting and balancing tires, tire repairs, oil changes, vehicle inspections, and other less technical services, while delivering an excellent customer experience. The technician maintains clean and safe work areas in the tire and service department and may advise customers about and sell them recommended or required automotive services and repairs. The role involves learning to diagnose and repair basic automotive systems, staying current with changing automotive technology through formal training, and assisting fellow technicians and mechanics with technical activities. The technician must follow company policies, procedures, and safety and environmental rules.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license.
- Passion for a career as an automotive technician.
- Eagerness to learn and a competitive drive to succeed.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Availability to work days, nights, holidays, and weekends as needed.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
Responsibilities
- Learn to diagnose and repair basic automotive systems, including brakes, alignments, suspensions, cooling, and electrical systems.
- Continuously learn new technical information and techniques in formal training sessions to stay abreast of changing automotive technology.
- Change engine oil and filters.
- Install tires and perform tire maintenance.
- Install batteries and check starting and charging systems.
- Install headlights and other small bulbs.
- Repair flat tires.
- Install wiper blades.
- Stock and unload tires.
- Assist fellow technicians and mechanics with technical activities.
- Keep store management aware of mechanical repair problems as they occur.
- Clean and maintain an organized and neat shop.
- Follow company policies, procedures, and safety and environmental rules.
- Provide advice to customers and sell recommended or required automotive services and repairs, as needed.
