Auto General Service Technician
About The Position
The General Service Technician performs basic automotive services, including mounting and balancing tires, tire repairs, oil changes, vehicle inspections, and other less technical services while delivering an excellent customer experience. The role includes maintaining clean and safe work areas in the tire and service department. The technician may also advise customers and sell recommended or required automotive services and repairs. The technician learns to diagnose and repair basic automotive systems and completes a range of tire, maintenance, and installation tasks. They participate in ongoing technical training, assist other technicians and mechanics, report repair problems to store management, and follow company policies and safety and environmental rules.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license.
- Passion for a career as an automotive technician.
- Eagerness to learn and a competitive drive to succeed.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Availability to work days, nights, holidays, and weekends as needed.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including frequent lifting of heavy equipment weighing more than 100 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Learn to diagnose and repair basic automotive systems, including brakes, alignments, suspensions, cooling, and electrical systems.
- Continuously learn new technical information and techniques through formal training to keep up with changing automotive technology.
- Change engine oil and filters.
- Install tires and perform tire maintenance.
- Install batteries and check starting and charging systems.
- Install headlights and other small bulbs.
- Repair flat tires.
- Install wiper blades.
- Stock and unload tires.
- Assist fellow technicians and mechanics with technical activities.
- Keep store management aware of mechanical repair problems as they occur.
- Clean and maintain an organized and neat shop.
- Follow company policies, procedures, safety rules, and environmental rules.
- Provide advice to customers and sell recommended or required automotive services and repairs when needed.
