Auto General Service Technician
About The Position
The General Service Technician performs basic automotive services, including mounting and balancing tires, tire repairs, oil changes, and vehicle inspections, while providing an excellent customer experience. The role also involves maintaining clean and safe work areas in the tire and service department and may require advising customers about and selling recommended or necessary automotive services and repairs. The technician learns to diagnose and repair basic automotive systems and keeps current with changing automotive technology through formal training. The position requires following company policies, procedures, safety rules, and environmental rules.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license.
- Passion for a career as an automotive technician.
- Eagerness to learn and a competitive drive to succeed.
- At least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Availability to work days, nights, holidays, and weekends as needed.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including frequent lifting of equipment weighing over 100 pounds.
Responsibilities
- Learn to diagnose and repair basic automotive systems, including brakes, alignments, suspensions, cooling, and electrical systems.
- Participate in formal training to keep up with changing automotive technology.
- Change engine oil and filters.
- Install tires and perform tire maintenance.
- Install batteries and check starting and charging systems.
- Install headlights and other small bulbs.
- Repair flat tires.
- Install wiper blades.
- Stock and unload tires.
- Assist fellow technicians and mechanics with technical activities.
- Keep store management informed of mechanical repair problems as they occur.
- Clean and maintain an organized, neat shop.
- Follow company policies, procedures, safety rules, and environmental rules.
- Provide excellent customer service and, when required, advise customers about and sell automotive services and repairs.
