About The Position

The General Merchandise Lead provides direction for the operations, processes, and conditions of their area and plans, guides, and empowers team members in the department’s day-to-day work. The Lead models an exceptional customer experience, helps achieve department goals, and influences peers to support a winning strategy. The role may also involve acting in a lead capacity in other store departments and performing other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

Responsibilities

Engage peers to provide customers with the best possible shopping experience, including an exceptional checkout experience.
Communicate with team members and assign daily work tasks.
Mentor and coach team members to help exceed customer service and sales goals, maintain Meijer standards, and complete required training.
Support training for new team members and cross-training for high-potential talent; provide peer coaching on job responsibilities and standards to improve productivity.
Work with leadership on department schedule writing to support team member engagement, customer service, store sales, and profitability.
Monitor execution of product rotation and dating policies to ensure freshness.
Guide the team in complying with food safety standards and regulations and working safely in alignment with 200% accountability.
Lead team members in completing ordering, receiving, stocking, pricing, and product display, where applicable.
Help create an environment that supports Meijer culture, including valuing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Operate a register and handle cash when needed.
Operate powered equipment, where applicable.
Participate in period-end inventories, where applicable, to help achieve goals.
May act in a lead capacity in other departments throughout the store.
Perform other duties as assigned or required.
