The mechanic may assist other hospital and clinic departments with maintenance and support services. In severe weather or disaster, personnel may be assigned a work area and required to remain onsite for the duration. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, two years of commercial, industrial, or hospital maintenance experience or completion of the Ochsner Apprenticeship program, and a valid driver's license in the state of residence. Trade school or company school and healthcare experience are preferred. The position involves heavy physical work, working indoors, outdoors, and in restricted spaces, and potential occupational exposure to communicable diseases. The mechanic must be available for on-call emergencies and extended hours.
