About the role: We are seeking a General Manager, Talent to set the strategic direction for the Group’s enterprise performance, talent and succession systems. This role requires an experienced and credible talent leader with a strong track record in delivering global enterprise strategies, with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders, demonstrate a deep passion for talent, and bring a continuous improvement mindset and strong leadership capability. Reporting directly to the Head of Talent Area of Expertise (AoE) and operating within a collaborative matrix environment in Talent AoE, the primary responsibilities include: Lead the design and delivery of enterprise talent principles, programmes and differentiated approaches for critical roles and key talent populations Establish and govern enterprise standards, principles and cadence for talent reviews, succession planning, performance enablement and talent evaluation Embed strategic workforce planning into enterprise talent and succession approaches, including future capability demand, critical skills forecasting and talent supply assumptions considering new and emerging markets Lead the Future of Work agenda, ensuring talent systems and succession strategies anticipate changing roles, skills, automation and workforce composition, including the consideration of the role of AI in skills and jobs of the future Set the framework and provide tools for the enterprise approach to OE and ways of working, aligned to Product Group and functional strategies Own and continuously evolve the enterprise EVP strategy to strengthen attraction, engagement and retention outcomes Define critical role architectures, leadership expectations and experiences aligned to the Rio Tinto leadership model Deliver enterprise talent insights, governance and reporting both for internal and external purposes including informing workforce strategy, leadership investment, succession and people‑related risk; lead and develop a high‑performing team.

Requirements

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • A degree in Bachelor of Business or similar (e.g., Human Resources, Organisational Psychology, Commerce)
  • Strong, proven leadership experience in enterprise talent (performance management, succession, career development and talent systems), ideally in a global matrix environment
  • Deep interest and applied experience in seeking and using leading practice and knowledge in the field of succession and career management
  • Ability to transform data into actionable insights and clear recommendations
  • Demonstrated ability to balance enterprise thinking and best practice with practical application and product group relevance
  • Excellent influencing and strategic thinking skills and ability to communicate effectively with senior leaders and executives
