About The Position

Smithfield production employees handle materials and use hand tools, knives, machinery, and equipment to help produce food responsibly. The work is physically demanding and requires good hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, strength, and stamina. Team members must be available for scheduled hours, which may include mandatory overtime based on production demands. Employees may perform other duties as assigned. The position is listed as 1st shift and pays a competitive starting rate of $20.85 per hour.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Able to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Able to perform continuous or repetitive movements, including grasping, pinching, and flexing and extending the arms.
Able to stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift.
Able to work around animal blood and/or carcass parts.
Able to work with a knife if trained.
Able to work in cold areas of approximately 20–40 degrees and/or warm areas over 100 degrees.
Able to work in wet and humid environments, noisy environments using personal protective equipment, and around strong smells or odors.
Able to wear a hard hat, hearing and eye protection, and steel-toed safety shoes.
Able to work with sanitation and cleaning chemicals.
Able to climb and move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms.
Able to bend, stoop, and twist repetitively over an entire shift and walk long distances.
Some positions may require repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 pounds, single lifting of objects up to 60 pounds, or lifting with mechanical assistance.
