About The Position

Production employees at Smithfield handle materials and use hand tools, knives, machinery, and equipment to help deliver food responsibly. The work is physically demanding and requires good hand-eye coordination, attention to detail, strength, and stamina. Team members must be available for scheduled hours, which may include mandatory overtime depending on production demands. Additional duties may be assigned, and specific positions may have additional essential functions.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years of age.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Perform continuous or repetitive movements, including grasping, pinching, and flexing and extending the arms.
Stand on concrete and/or platforms for up to a 12-hour shift.
Work around animal blood and/or carcass parts.
Work with a knife if trained.
Work in cold areas of approximately 20–40 degrees and/or warm areas over 100 degrees.
Work in wet and humid conditions and noisy environments.
Wear a hard hat, hearing and eye protection, steel-toed safety shoes, and other required personal protective equipment.
Work with sanitation and cleaning chemicals and around strong odors.
Climb and move on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms.
Bend, stoop, and twist repetitively throughout a shift, and walk long distances.
Some positions may require repetitive overhead lifting up to 30 pounds, lifting heavy objects up to 60 pounds, or lifting with mechanical assistance.
