About The Position

The General Foreman I oversees the inspection, maintenance, repair, and modification of rail cars and locomotives. This role manages a team of mechanics, technicians, laborers, cleaners, and supervisors while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget. The position is responsible for equipment reliability, workforce leadership, maintenance planning, regulatory compliance, and continuous operational improvement.

Requirements

Associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
3+ years of relevant industrial, railroad, marine, or plant maintenance experience.
Leadership or management experience required.
Experience troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems.
Knowledge of workplace safety programs.
Leadership and team management.
Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting.
Preventive and corrective maintenance planning.
Safety and regulatory compliance.
Project coordination and resource management.
Problem-solving and analytical skills.
Microsoft Office and asset management software proficiency.

Responsibilities

Supervise daily inspection, maintenance, repair, and modification of rolling stock equipment.
Lead and manage teams of mechanics, technicians, laborers, cleaners, and supervisors.
Ensure equipment reliability and maximize availability through preventive and corrective maintenance.
Oversee maintenance operations while ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
Coordinate work orders, maintenance schedules, and documentation.
Manage personnel, resources, budgets, and project timelines.
Monitor quality standards and implement process improvements.
Utilize safety management systems to identify and mitigate workplace risks.
Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment issues.
Prepare reports and communicate operational updates to leadership.
